The Chevy Spark Can Provide Huge Savings

The 2013 Chevrolet Spark mini car is saving owners time and money when it comes to regularly scheduled maintenance.  With minimal required scheduled maintenance, young, reluctant car buyers can rest assured that the Spark is a solid investment that will require little more expense than the monthly payment.

Designed for next-generation urbanites, engineers took into account that people in this demographic are more likely than previous generations to delay major life events, like buying their first new car, because of uncertainty over the overall cost of vehicle ownership.  According to research by Chevrolet and MTV Scratch, more than one in four of next-generation customers said owning a vehicle that is easier and less expensive to maintain is very important.

With its $12,995 starting price, the Spark is more than $3,100 less than its nearest competitor.  It is saving owners money right off the bat.  The savings don’t end there, though.  For example, Chevrolet engineers designed the Spark’s engine timing chain to require no scheduled maintenance (unlike timing belts) and electronic power steering and transmission fluid are intended to last the life of the vehicle.  Spark owners can also go up to 100,000 miles before replacing spark plugs.

Oil changes are required less frequently than in many other cars as well.  With Chevrolet’s advanced oil life system, oil and filter changes for the Spark are recommended around 7,500 miles or when the Oil Life Monitor system alerts the driver for an oil change.  At a participating Chevrolet Certified Service provider, like Lake Country Chevrolet Cadillac, an oil change with the gas saver bundle will cost just $29.95.  Over the average 150,000 mile life of the vehicle, Spark owners will save approximately $900, compared with vehicles that recommend oil changes every 3,000 miles.

The Spark is the only mini car on the market that is covered by a five-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, a three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, and a six-year/100,000-mile rust-through limited warranty.

When the Spark does need service, it will tell you what it needs through OnStar, which is standard for six months.  Spark owners can receive monthly vehicle diagnostics emails, including the state of fluid levels and tire pressure.

Launched in Korea in 2009, the Spark is now available in almost every country in the world and has sold more than 600,000 vehicles worldwide.  With its American debut, it is also winning over drivers in the United States.  The Spark is the only car in the segment to offer five doors and an available seven-inch touch screen Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system.

If you are on the hedge about buying a new car, come to Lake Country and see why the Spark is winning over the world’s drivers with its sleek exterior and its low cost of ownership.

Lake Country Season of Giving: Thanksgiving Feast

To kick off our Season of giving we started, we were put into contact with a local family with special foods needs for the holidays. With numerous food allergies and financial stresses, the family was not going to be able to provide a proper Thanksgiving meal for their son. This was his first Thanksgiving to be able to eat “real” food and his mother wanted to make it special. Therefore, Lake Country Chevrolet Cadillac stepped in and provided all the groceries the family needed to prepare their holiday meal this year.

Here is a lovely note from the family we helped with Thanksgiving dinner.

“Children are a blessing and as a parent you go through great lengths to meet their needs and make them happy. This year will be our youngest son’s first time to share in a Thanksgiving meal. Unfortunately this year we’ve had several unforeseen events occur recently and we haven’t recovered financially from them. Our youngest son is 2, but between his severe and numerous food allergies (with a highly restricted diet including all the major allergens and more, even normal Thanksgiving foods like turkey and pumpkin) as well as my food allergies, food is rather expensive for us, especially if I want to make something special like a pie. Thank you Lake Country for helping us make his First Thanksgiving special for him.”

A little look at what the family received.

These were his favorite snack so we were sure to stock up on some for him.

As you can see, the family requested items to help prepare her food from scratch. Her son has many allergies that requires special meals to be planned.

Some more groceries for our sponsored family’s Thanksgiving meal.

The little guy can’t have turkey, but he does love ham and bacon, so we threw in an extra ham for some post-Thanksgiving feasting.

Loading up the Thanksgiving meal for the family.

The chef for the feast (aka “mom”) with the ham. As you can see from the photo they have another little one on the way. We were told it is a girl this time.

Lake Country Season of Giving

The holiday is season is here and Lake Country Chevrolet Cadillac wants to help pay it forward. Lake Country has teamed up with the Muskogee Department of Human Services to help bring a little holiday cheer to local foster children. We will be sponsoring 20 angels from the DHS angel tree to provide Christmas gifts and needed items. We would love for you to participate as well! Black Friday is tomorrow so pick up some extra gifts and stop by Lake Country and pick an angel from our tree and spread a little Christmas cheer. We will have extra angels that DHS needs sponsored in our lobby.

Our Season of giving couldn’t leave Thanksgiving unnoticed either. We were put into contact with a local family with special foods needs for the holidays.

If you are looking for a way to give back this holiday season, consider stopping in Lake Country to sponsor a DHS foster child’s Christmas. We have some extra angels on our tree for pickup. Just stop in our lobby to pick an angel of your own.

Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition

@GM Media News

The dream of millions of Hot Wheels® fans of all ages will come when the Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition will arrive at Chevrolet dealerships early next year. You can also order yours direct  from Lake Country Chevrolet Cadillac. It’s the first time a full-size, production Hot Wheels® car has been offered for sale by any manufacturer.

Blister packaging and orange race track not included.

“Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “Offering a special production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages.”

The Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition debuted today at the SEMA Show, in Las Vegas. A special run of the Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition will be produced in the first quarter of 2013 – and like the collectable toys on which it is based – when they’re gone, they’re gone.

“It’s been nearly 20 years since I started designing cars for Hot Wheels and I have yet to drive one home,” said Felix Holst, vice president of creative for the Mattel Wheels Division. “Personally, I can’t wait to open the doors and see the Hot Wheels Camaro sitting in the garage.”

The appearance of the Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition echoes the cues that Hot Wheels enthusiasts recognize, including a vibrant, graphics-accented metallic paint scheme and even the red-lined wheels. The result is instantly recognizable as a Hot Wheels.

The Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition is available in coupe and convertible models – in 2LT (V-6) and 2SS (V-8) trims, blending exterior cues of the high-performance Camaro ZL1 with a Kinetic Blue exterior color and unique graphics. Exterior highlights include:

  • ZL1 rear spoiler (coupe models)
  • ZL1 front upper grille
  • Ground effects package, including front splitter and rocker treatment
  • Black 21-inch wheels with red outline stripe
  • Two-tone matte hood graphic and rear taillight panel “blackout” graphic
  • Fender “flame” graphics
  • Hot Wheels grille and decklid logos.

On the inside, a black leather-trimmed interior is accented with red and black seat stitching with the Hot Wheels logo embroidered on the front seats. The instrument panel and door inserts are black, with the Hot Wheels-style flame decal on each door. Hot Wheels® Edition sill plates also distinguish the car, along with Camaro-logo premium floor mats with red edging.

SS models feature a 6.2L V-8, which is offered in two iterations: the “L99” on automatic-equipped vehicles and the “LS3” on manual-equipped models. Horsepower for the L99 is 400 (298 kW) and torque is 410 lb.-ft. (556 Nm) – and it features fuel-saving Active Fuel Management. The LS3 develops 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. (569 Nm) of torque.

LT-based models feature the “LFX” 3.6L V-6 engine, with dual-overhead camshafts, variable valve timing and direct injection. It’s rated at 323 horsepower at 6,800 rpm.

A dual-mode exhaust system is available on SS models with the six-speed manual transmission, as well as LT models with either the manual or automatic transmission. Similar to the systems found on the Camaro ZL1, the vacuum-actuated system provides a quieter driving experience at low engine speeds and a more aggressive sound during hard acceleration.

Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system is standard on the Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition. Its color touch radio, with a seven-inch touch screen, also can be paired with an available in-dash GPS navigation system. The color touch radio with MyLink enables a higher level of in-vehicle wireless connectivity and customized infotainment options, while building on the safety and security of OnStar. It seamlessly integrates online services such as Pandora® internet radio and Stitcher SmartRadio® using hands-free voice and touch-screen controls via Bluetooth-enabled phones.

FAST FACT: The original Custom Camaro 1:64-scale toy from 1968 was one of the original16 Hot Wheels issued and remains one of the most valuable Hot Wheels toys among collectors.

Next Gen Silverado to Debut End of Year

Chevrolet will take the wraps off the all-new Silverado 1500 full-size pickup on Dec. 13 at a special event in the Detroit area. The bold exterior design of the new Silverado reflects the enhanced capabilities of the truck while features such as jewel-like, projector beam headlamps showcase the careful attention given to every detail.

The new Silverado will be on public display for the first time at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January, and will start production next year. As soon as the new Silverado images hit the web we will be sure to post!

What advances in design do you expect to see?

GM and Lighter Steel

General Motors is testing an industry-first thermal-forming process and proprietary corrosion resistance treatment for lightweight magnesium sheet metal that will allow increased use of the high-strength alternative to steel and aluminum.

GM wants to expand its use of low-mass parts on vehicles around the world and will pursue licensing opportunities related to this breakthrough technology. The goal is for suppliers to be able to use the process to provide significant amounts of magnesium sheet that will trim pounds from vehicle mass.

The use of magnesium, which weighs 33 percent less than aluminum, 60 percent less than titanium, and 75 percent less than steel, will help customers save money at the gas pump, as will more efficient conventional engines and electric powertrains.

Until now, automakers have struggled to make reliably strong and non-corroding magnesium sheet metal panels using traditional panel forming methods. GM’s patented process turns up the heat on magnesium to 450 degrees Celsius (842 degrees Fahrenheit), allowing the material to be molded into precise, rigid shapes.

Using this process, GM developed a production-ready magnesium rear deck lid inner panel that withstood 77,000 robotic slams and 250-kilogram impact drops without any issues.

Die-cast magnesium has been used in a variety of parts ranging from steering wheels to engine cradles, but GM is the first to use thermal-formed magnesium sheet metal in structural applications, and it expects magnesium sheet applications to grow with additional materials and process improvements targeted at reducing cost.

“This innovative use of magnesium is just one example of how GM is leveraging breakthrough technologies that will benefit our customers around the globe,” said Jon Lauckner, GM chief technology officer and vice president of Global Research & Development. “Using high-strength lightweight materials such as magnesium and aluminum is one of the most effective ways to improve vehicle fuel economy and driving performance.”

GM R&D recently announced an industry-first welding technology for aluminum, which is expected to enable more use of the metal on future vehicles.

The United States Automotive Materials Partnership estimates that by 2020, 350 pounds of magnesium will replace 500 pounds of steel and 130 pounds of aluminum per vehicle, an overall weight reduction of 15 percent. This weight savings would lead to a fuel savings of 9 percent to 12 percent.

On the production ready rear deck lid inner panel, GM can remove 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) of weight compared to a steel deck lid inner panel.

“Every gram of weight reduction matters when it comes to improving fuel economy,” said Greg Warden, GM executive director for global vehicle body engineering. “Being able to replace heavier metals with one of the lightest will help us deliver better fuel economy to customers around the world while also still providing the safety and durability they expect.”

Automakers also have struggled to make magnesium corrosion resistant. GM’s proprietary treatment for thermal-formed magnesium resisted 10 consecutive weeks of 24-hour environmental tests involving salt spray, 100 percent humidity and extreme temperatures.

“Like all of our advanced material vehicle parts, we subjected the magnesium trunk lid to the most severe strength and corrosion tests we know of, and it passed with flying colors,” said Jon Carter, GM R&D metals researcher. “We expect it to perform extremely well even in the harshest environments.”

If you are looking to purchase a vehicle that is ahead of the game in regards to not only technology, but performance, Chevrolet and Cadillac’s GM engineered designs may be exactly what you are looking for.

Onstar and the Chevrolet Volt

OnStar is testing an app capable of telling Chevrolet Volt owners how much it costs to charge their battery – and compare the Volt’s energy use with the total energy consumed in their home by day, month or year.

The new app, called EcoHub, will initially be tested with and available to residents of the Pecan Street demonstration project, a smart grid living community in Austin.

“For the first time we’re able to put one of our Smart Grid solutions into the hands of actual consumers, thanks in part to our partnership with Pecan Street,” said Paul Pebbles, global manager, Electric Vehicle and Smart Grid Services. “Down the line, we hope this app can be a beneficial tool for all drivers of electric vehicles.”

The EcoHub app works by pulling overall home energy usage data, provided by an energy data source, such as a utility or smart meter company. The app also collects Volt charging information from OnStar subscribers and Volt owners who opt in for EcoHub. The energy use data is then aggregated to show vehicle owners exactly how much energy is being used on a daily, monthly or yearly basis, while showing what percentage of that energy went to charging the Volt. Based on electricity rates, the data is broken down to show the cost of both total energy usage and Volt charging energy use.

The 2013 Volt can travel an average of 38 miles on one full electric charge before its onboard gas-powered electric generator seamlessly switches on.

“We’ve found that Volt owners love to keep track of and compare their personal driving stats, like electric miles driven for example,” said Cristi Landy, Chevrolet Volt marketing director. “The EcoHub app is another great example of using the vehicle’s embedded technology to provide Volt owners with useful information.”

In addition, the EcoHub app will include a “Ticker” screen that shows drivers the national values for Total Miles Driven, Total EV Miles Driven and Gallons of Fuel Saved.

“The ‘Ticker’ screen is a nice addition because it allows drivers to see that they are part of a national effort to reduce fuel use by contributing to the growing number of electric miles driven.” said Pebbles.

While the app will be tested with and only be available to Volt drivers in Pecan Street project at first, OnStar hopes to make the app available for all Volt owners in the near future.
